Discover – Forum News

Discover is a hands-on interactive story trail where young minds can play, explore, make up new characters and create their own special tales.

East Foundation has helped fund a project for Discover's ‘Children's Forum’, made up of around 30 young people from Stratford aged between 4 and 12 years old. Since being set up in 2003 the Forum has been working with the Stratford City Development Partnership, as well as designers, architects and developers to share their vision and aspirations for the area.

Funding from East Foundation will help the group set up a newspaper ‘Forum News’ for local children. Forum News will chart the progress of the Stratford City and Olympic developments. It will enable children to have a much greater understanding of how these exciting regeneration projects will affect them and how they can benefit.

Quotes from Forum members about the Forum News project:

"The Children's Forum News sounds like a really good idea. We can express our ideas in the world. The newspaper will be aimed at people our age (or adults who care)."
Malik Fields, 10 years old

"We like the idea of the Forum News. It is a good idea because it could change Stratford and people could read it and find out about our ideas.
It is interesting because we have been doing good work with photography and lots of other stuff."
Colm Keating, 6 years old

"The people of Stratford can read our newspaper to discover about the area, and also about all the good information that the Children's Forum knows. (Now) we want to be journalists. Maybe other children would like to tell us about their ideas or they might want to make their own newspaper."
Farida Ali Saleh, 9 years old
