Multi-Media pilot project
A new pilot project funded by East Foundation is helping people with learning disabilities and limited verbal skills to have a much greater say in how their care is delivered.
Funding for digital cameras, video technology, specialist support and training allowed staff in two pilot care schemes to review the daily routines of service users, helping shape the services they receive.
By seeing first hand how a person communicates their likes and dislikes, and what is important in their daily lives, carers and other professionals are able to develop Person Centred Plans which best reflect the needs of each individual.
As a result of the support provided by East Foundation, it is hoped that the pilot will now be rolled out across more care schemes in east London and Essex.
“Using multi media encourages staff to review the ways in which they provide services, forces them to reflect on their practices….gives service users more respect as a person and consequently empowers them” (Staff member involved in Pilot).
